About

The California Biodiversity Garden at LRPPG is a dynamic, living celebration of inland Southern California's unique ecology. The space has been built to support native wildlife, showcase climate-resilient landscaping, and educate the public on the importance of local conservation.

The garden was established in 2022 by staff and volunteers. It now hosts over 40 native plant species specifically chosen for their staggered seasonal blooms to support bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife year-round.

Critical Habitat in the Inland Empire

The Inland Empire is best known for its role as an industrial hub, but beneath that urban growth lies a landscape of extraordinary ecological value. Our region is part of the California Floristic Province: one of only 35 biodiversity hotspots in the world, and one of just two in the continental U.S. That means that our area is home to an incredible number of plant and animal species, many of which exist nowhere else on Earth!

What to See in the Garden

  • Over 40 native species chosen for their ability to support local wildlife and thrive in our climate.
  • Seasonal blooms designed for year-round impact. Our flowering species have been selected to bloom in succession, creating a 12-month resource corridor and continuous food source for wildlife so they never go hungry, even during peak summer months!
  • Varied heights, textures, and layers that mimic natural plant communities. These provide cover for lizards, nesting areas for birds, and shady microclimates.
  • Water-smart landscaping that illustrates how beauty and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.
